The multi-disciplinary team of researchers in the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture have looked at many facets of Precision Agriculture.  Current projects are primarily part of the CSREES-USDA Grants:*

Precision Agriculture: Development and Assessment of Integrated Practices for Kentucky Producers

Or, more recently:

Precision Agriculture: Precision Resource Management

* The development of the Precision Agriculture and Precision Resource Management programs was made possible by Senator Mitch McConnell with funds earmarked for the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture, Lexington, KY and budgeted through the CSREES/USDA Federal Administration.

Other current and previous projects include:

Forage Yield Monitoring: Research on using sensors to assess the height (and thus, yield) of various forages.  - Results of a summer internship with a student from Dijon University (France).

Soil Electrical Conductivity: Research on Electrical Conductivity for Site-Specific Soil and Crop Management using the Veris Soil Conductivity System

Tri-State Tutorial on Site-Specific Farming: Development of precision agriculture educational materials for the WWW. (USDA Challenge Grant in cooperation with Ohio State and Purdue Universities).

Variable-Rate Fertilizer: Two-bin variable-rate spinner spreader truck development.

Variable-Rate Herbicide: Variable-rate management of triazines in accordance with soil organic matter content and texture (Senate Bill 271, Commonwealth of Kentucky).

Variable-Rate Nitrogen: Variable-rate 28% nitrogen coulter applicator development.

Variable-Rate Seeding: Varying seed populations in accordance with top-soil depth on highly eroded soils. (Supported by the Kentucky Corn Growers).

Yield Monitor Performance Testing:  Testing current and new technologies to improve and verify the performance of yield monitor components.

Develop and Assess Precision Farming Technology and Its Economic and Environmental Impact (Southern Regional Project S-283).

Swine and Dairy Waste Management Using Precision Agriculture (Senate Bill 271, Commonwealth of Kentucky).

Variable-rate management of inorganic and organic nutrients on Kentucky soils. (EPA 319(h)).
