This picture of a corn field was taken from an airplane. With the exception of the grass waterway areas, the field should look fairly uniform. The lighter areas and stripes in this field reveals several problems previously unknown to the owner:
| Area A - This triangular area was never planted. The planter operator did not finish planting the point rows. | |
| Area B - This area of the field did not receive any nitrogen. Evidently, the applicator ran out of nitrogen before finishing this area of the field. | |
| Area C - The stripes across the entire field suggested a problem with the nitrogen application equipment. Upon inspection of the equipment, the owner found several problems with orifices and nozzles. |
