Objective: Discuss the basic fermentation process for making ethanol from corn, the amount of corn needed for energy compared to what is currently produced, and the possibility of and obstacles involved with making ethanol from other parts of the corn plant. Materials: Slide set titled “ethanol-slides” in MS Powerpoint (ethanol-slides.ppt) or PDF (ethanol-slides.pdf) format. Notes for slide set (ethanol-slides-notes.pdf)
"Eat the Planet" demonstration (appleplanet.pdf) Preparation: 1. Familiarize yourself with the ethanol slides and the notes. 2. Review the Kentucky Ethanol Journey available at www.bae.uky.edu/Biofuels. Presentation: Present information to the class using slides and apple demonstration.
