Objective:

Demonstrate the quantity and variety of items that are made with corn.

 Materials:

A large box

Note: You can also use pictures of these products instead of the actual item.

 Preparation:

1.      Familiarize yourself with the corn products slides (corn-product-slides.ppt or corn-product-slides.pdf) and the sources of various corn products.

2.      Place corn items in box and keep contents covered until presentation.

 Presentation:

Ask students how they like to eat corn. [corn on the cob, creamed corn, etc.] Tell them that corn is used in many other foods we enjoy every day. Ask the students to name a product that contains corn. As the students name an item in the box, pull it out and set it on display. Continue to get input from students until all the food items are named.

Then ask the students if they know of any non-edible products that use corn. Again, pull the items out of the box as the students name them.
