Swine: Nutrient Management & Water Quality

Exhaust Gases

The confined production facility exhaust gases are lofted for increased dispersion of potential odorants.  Click Here to see a slideshow demonstration of the lofting ability from the exhaust stacks.

Liquid Waste Storage

The covered liquid manure tanks store waste until it is incorporated into the soil.  The gases from the head space are exhausted through a biofilter to reduce any potential odorants.

Injection

  • Total solids in liquid wastes are measured by ultrasound or neutron instruments to estimate N and P concentrations.

  • Total solid concentration and the volume flow rate are used to determine the application rate.

  • GPS/GIS are used to determine required plant nutrient application rate.
