Riparian Study
Three levels
cattle access to a stream are being studied in fenced pasture:
- unlimited
access
- controlled
access
- no access
Water quality
and stream embankment stability are being studied. Cattle growth and grazing
patterns are also observed.

Best Management Practices
Two of the
three pastures in the riparian zone has a waterer located at a distance from the
stream. The
waterers are located on an area designed for high traffic. This
area is composed of rock and underlying geotextile material. These are used
as a means of Best Management Practice.

Solid Separation
The collection pit
is designed to contain the peak storm flow runoff. This pit is
designed for solid separation before liquids
flow onto a grass infiltration area.

Composting
Windrows of
solid manure with added biomass, are constructed on a composting pad.
Stable compost is stored in a shed and later applied back to the land
as a means of nutrient supplements. The Equipment
used to work the compost is seen in the distance.
