Mobile Technology for Teaching Grant Workshops
- Kentucky 2004 GIS Conference Workshop - Hydrology and ArcHydro
- September 30, 2004; Lexington, KY.
This workshop emphasized the use of ArcGIS in water resource projects. Using
the grant's Tablet PCs, it was possible to take the workshop to the conference. The Tablets' ink capabilities
allowed our team member to make her presentation completely wireless! Participants used both the Tablet PC technology
in conjunction with ArcGIS software on the Tablets to gain hands-on experience in terrain analysis using digital
elevation models; development of watershed networks; and flood hydrology modeling with geospatial data.

- Lexington Community College In-Service Workshop - Mapping the UK Arboreteum - October
1, 2004; Lexington, KY.
This faculty-staff mini-course focused on the development of data dictionaries and
Trimble GPS applications by taking the students into the field. The use of the HP Tablet PCs enabled the
students to develop their data dictionary using Pathfinder Office software in the field and subsequently
upload their data dictionary to the Trimble GPS. Upon collection of raw, uncorrected GPS data, the data was
downloaded back to the Tablet PC, from which students wre able to perform differential correction of their
data in the field.
- Mobile Technology for Teaching Grant BAE Department Seminar - November, 2004.
This faculty/student seminar was designed to expose BAE faculty and students not

learned. Participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the equipment and team members were
able to discern topics and questions that would need to be addressed in the College and Campus-wide workshops
planned as part of the grant.
