HP Mobile Technology for Teaching Initiative 2004
The Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Kentucky received an equipment grant from Hewlett Packard to engage it's students via the introduction of mobile technology in the classroom. As a land grant institution, the University of Kentucky's primary objective is to provide effective delivery of curtial educational programs. The use of mobile technology based curricula enables more interactive participation in the classroom and the integration of real-world problem solving that transcends traditional classroom experiences.
Through this grant of 20 Tablet PCs, team members have successfully incorporated mobile technology into their traditional classrooms, making lectures more interesting and interactive. Best of all, "traditional" classrooms and labs are no longer the only options for learning. Our team members are taking students to experiences not possible in traditional classrooms or computer labs. In addition, extension professors and researchers are exploring the potential for integrating mobile technology with distance learning to enable technology transfer to Kentucky's 120 counties.
